A Look Inside the WeinerMobile!

Everyone Would Be In Love With Me!

We never know what this job will bring each day!  It’s one of the things I love about it.  Today, I got a call from a young lady named Molly, who said she was driving the Oscar Meyer “WeinerMobile” across the country.  Molly wondered if I’d like to see it, maybe take a picture and climb around inside.  Are you KIDDING ME?!  Of course I would!

I ran around to the other stations in the building here to see if anyone wanted to join, and Chuck Williams from KGNC-AM shared my enthusiasm.  Sure enough, about 30 minutes later “MayoChup Molly” and “Saucy Spenser” pulled up in this:

I was informed that the original Oscar Meyer’s nephew, Carl Meyer, dreamed up the first WeinerMobile in 1936, as the nation was going through bad economic times.   The Meyers wanted to simply put a smile on American’s faces and, as MayoChup Molly put it, “Spread some joy!”  MayoChup Molly and Saucy Spenser are what’s known as “Hotdoggers” – teams of young folks who drive the WeinerMobile around the country.  They’ve just been in Madison, WI (the home port of all 6 WeinerMobiles}, then came to Amarillo from Topeka.  Next, it’s off to Flagstaff and Albuquerque!  Lots of smiles…miles of weiners.

I thought y’all might want to see what it looks like inside, so here are a couple of pictures of the interior – Inside The Big WeinerMobile:

And this:

It worked!  The Hotdoggers left Chuck and I with some Oscar Meyer toys and a pair of big smiles (see below).

We even showed our age and sang MayoChup Molly and Saucy Spenser a chorus of the song.  “Cause if I was an Oscar Meyer Weiner, everyone would be in love with me!”  Smile. It feels good!

Love,
-Johnny
