Fair Food Is So Good…It’s Not Fair!

The Tri-State Fair & Rodeo is once again upon us!  There’s always a bunch to do.  From the thrill rides, to the animals and exhibits…but if you ask me, it’s all about the food!  Ah, yes…fair food…deep fried goodness!

There are a handful of fair foods that you must not miss!

Funnel Cakes – Fried dough treats have been around for a while but the funnel cake stands alone as an example of edible perfection.  Combining the simple goodness of fried dough and powdered sugar…who knew?  The funnel cake maximizes surface area for sugar and allows for convenient sharing.

Corn Dogs – By combining a simple wiener in a thick layer of deep fried cornmeal batter, a fair food staple was born!  Plus it’s easy to handle on a stick and fatty enough compete with even the most frightening heart-stoppers, mmm mmm good!

Corn on the Cob – My goodness!  Grilling an ear of corn in the husk and then slathering the peeled cob with butter and a bit of salt is just amazing. The crunch and a mix of sweet and savory are a welcome staple from some of the more fattening and sugary items to be had the fair. But, take it easy on the butter!

Cotton Candy – This delicious spun sugar has been a popular item of the American fair diet for more than 100 years. The woven delicacy was first sampled by the American palate in 1904 during the St. Louis World’s Fair. Sold as ‘Fairy Floss,’ fair goers couldn’t get enough! The name was eventually changed to the name ‘Cotton Candy,’

Deep Friend Oreos – Yes, you can deep fry anything…and it’s delicious…consisting of an Oreo which is dipped in batter and deep-fried. It can be served with different toppings or simply with no toppings. Trust me, it’s good just by itself!

So, while you’re at the Tri-State Fair this week, get in on the goodies!  There’s plenty to choose from.  Turkey legs, Alligator, great BBQ and anything on a stick!  Have fun and be safe this week!
