An auto accident in Carson County claimed the lives of two people.

Sergeant Cindy Barkley of the Texas Department of Public Safety says at 8;25 a.m. July 4th on I-40 north of Groom, Richard Uzohu of Las Vegas, Nevada was driving a straight International truck.

For some reason, he veered off the eastbound side of I-40 and failed to drive in a single lane, and drifted off the roadway.

He struck the north side of the guardrail, flattening all three tires on its left side, traveling across both eastbound lanes, striking the guardrail on the southside

The vehicle overturned, landing on the bridge railing, and crushing the roof of the cab.

The passenger’s name has not been given, pending notification of the next of kin.

Both driver and passenger were declared dead by the Carson County Justice of the Peace.
