First COVID-19 Death Reported In The Area

The first death from the COVID-19 virus has been reported in out area.

A City of Amarillo press release states that this individual case occurred outside the jurisdiction of the Amarillo Public Health Department and that additional information will come from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

No identifying information nor the exact location of the deceased has been released at this time.

Amarillo’s Coronavirus Status Alert remains at the Orange Level or “limited confirmed COVID-19 cases in the area.”

The City of Amarillo says that decisions made now regarding social distancing and following CDC guidelines will directly impact how quickly our region recovers from the coronavirus.
