Instagram is testing the ability to hide “like” counts on posts in an effort to curb the anxiety that exists on social media. The idea has come with mixed reviews. Some people, especially influencers, like to see the “like” count or depend on it to do business with brands. Instagram says it will only test a “small percentage of its global community.” They hopes the change will keep people from experiencing “FOMO” or fear of missing out. A similar feature will also be tested on Facebook. More than likely a user will be able to choose their own experience. Users will either be able to hide likes from their posts and others or they can choose to continue to see likes. This gives everyone a choice on how to engage on the platform.
