Queen Elizabeth II Has Died

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years

Queen Elizabeth II was the head of state for the United Kingdom as well as 15 Commonwealth countries for over seventy years. She was the longest reigning of any British monarch and, at the time of her death, was the longest‑serving monarch in the world. Though not born into the main line of succession, after Edward VIII’s abdication she became heir presumptive. Following the death of her father King George VI in 1952, Elizabeth became Queen at just 25 years old. She was married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and is survived by four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great‑grandchildren.
