Texas officials are stepping up their efforts to keep people safe while boating during the 4th of July holiday.

Texas Game Wardens, as well as police and fire departments, are teaming up in a national safety effort called Operation Dry Water.

They are stressing that keeping proper speed and wearing life jackets are very important.

Texas law makes it mandatory that a life jacket is on board and children under 13 are required to wear one.

They’re also stressing to avoid using alcohol while boating. Last year, dozens of people were arrested for being drunk while boating and many citations and warnings were issued for violating boating safety laws.

There’s a far-reaching effect if you get caught for a BWI, and charged with a DWI, the charges are enhanceable.

So if you have three or more DWIs, a BWI can get you a felony
