Two Arrested In Amarillo For Fentanyl Distribution
According to an Amarillo Police Department news release, two people have been arrested for drug trafficking on state and federal charges.
The release describes how the Proactive Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) began a joint operation with the Drug Enforcement Agency this past June.
It appears the two people taken into custody were the targets of the operation on suspicion of getting Fentanyl from suppliers outside of Texas and bringing it to Amarillo for distribution.
P.A.C.E. was alerted the two suspects were traveling to Amarillo from Oklahoma City July 3. They were stopped in Amarillo, and a search of their car produced 22 grams of Fentanyl powder in a fake Sprite can.
Officers learned that the suspects bring 2,000 to 3,000 Fentanyl pills to Amarillo from Oklahoma City and Albuquerque at a time. The two were released pending further investigation.
On September 1, 32-year-old Jacob Newby, and 29-year-old Lilith Paparo-Prieto were arrested and charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute.
They were booked into the Randall County Jail.
