Potter County is one step closer to getting a land deal allowing the construction of a mental health hospital in Amarillo.

The new facility is estimated at 159 million dollars.

Potter County Judge Nancy Tanner discussed the possibility of a land exchange between Texas A&M University for a parcel of land in the Medical Center near the  Extension Service and the state offices.

The parcel would go directly to the Texas Health and Human Services for the hospital.

Potter County Attorney Scott Brumley says there could be an exchange for a parking lot on South Tyler Street owned by the county for a long-term lease.

The lot, now where the Greyhound Bus station is, would be used for student parking for those attending a planned psychiatric nursing school.
