Silverton Getting Money for Water Problems

Silverton will be getting 15 million dollars in aid from the Texas Water Development Board to shore up it water shortage and contamination problems.

The 15 million comes in the form of a 1-million dollar grant and a 5-million dollar loan to develop wells and pipe the water to the city.

The money is needed because of Lake McKenzie’s historic low level and arsenic in some existing well water.

 Besides drilling more wells at Silverton’s Swisher County wellfield, the money will also pay for a pump station, water storage, and an 11-mile pipeline.

The project is expected to cause a rate increase for customers
